TLDWpeel Day One – Posters and Breakouts
Today was Day One of the 2014 TLDWpeel (Teaching and Learning in a Digital World) and things were kicked off with an excellent keynote from Justin Reich (@bjfr) discussing the evolution of the teaching and learning process, and asking educators what it is that we want our students to come away with by the time the year is over. There was excitement in the air but it was hard to see unless you had the understanding that excitement meant 700+ Peel educators looking at their devices, listening and making an attempt to have #TLDWpeel be the top trending hashtag in Canada.
Then there were the poster sessions, 40+ put on Peel educators from K through 12, sharing their experiences with #geniushour #3dprinting #iPads #socialmedia, tech in the outdoors and so many more that I did not have the opportunity to explore.
The day wrapped up with breakout sessions of some of the hot topics being shared during the posters. I was a part of a trio (@SLewisYoung and @K5_RP) who hosted a breakout session on #geniushour where inquiry meets the curiosities of students. There definitely seemed to be curiosity amongst those we shared with and the 45 minutes we had could have been hours and we probably would have still been answering questions, so here is the Prezi, http://bitly.com/geniushourprezi Check out what we shared and what we did not have to time to touch on and remember ask questions
Tomorrow, I get to see some of the excitement my colleagues were speaking so much about. I certainly look forward to the Digital Playground.
